Lo que le debemos a la sociedad como Ingenieros de Sistemas

the joke tells itself, those friends that says “could you help me with this idea?” that you’re already bored to death may be right.

I’m not suggesting that we should do every app our friends tell us about (which are plenty) but rather take in they concerns and be aware of the problems that we can solve, then check for options. I know it isn’t easy with everything we have to do on daily basis! Our own mind keeps us busy even in our spare time, making us feel sometimes so overwhelmed that we don’t want to be near a computer or anything related, BUT! Here’s the thing, you know we can’t scape from our duty (because we’re wired to seek problems and solve them) and you know being Software Engineer isn’t just about coding and that’s where we can help.

Just now in pandemic times I’m really getting aware of our responsibility as workers of the STEM industry and if we think about it for a second we can agree it’s getting more and more noticeable, for example maybe you’re going to the same mini-market after some months locked up at your apartment and you overhear some of the stories of these times where people were actually struggling to find some money to cover basic needs and they are self-employees that didn’t know or have the resources to go digital while the lock-down and when I say digital it doesn’t have to be something too sophisticated as a mobile app with it’s own server with and integrations with paypal or stripe but rather some excel skills, maybe how to create a QR code to show their menu if it is a local restaurant or as simple as asking about their difficulties on the pandemic on their normal process and recommend something.

Yes, I know maybe they don’t even care but just by talking we can break a bit the idea that using tech is something for big companies or geniuses but for anyone who dares to take some minutes of their day to make the business greater and survive the absence of physical presence and be more used to maybe chat through their services.

Just, imagine at least see that local restaurant enter in your delivery app or the friend that is a volunteer in any social activity have a more robust or organized way to show case it’s ideas, services or even products to help schools or communities or anything.

In my case, I’ve been thinking seriously in creating a youtube channel just to record the farmers outside the city to teach how to grow your own garlic or have a little garden at your house, things that are simple for them and that who knows maybe someday with the help of many programs can be youtube famous enough to earn some money through the platform.

Even when my idea above is too ambitious, we have to keep thinking in the simplest way to help our community with our tech knowledge as it is important the culture that we want to our countries and respect the fact that many people still doesn’t know much about computers, or instagram or linkedIn or any other support app for their daily activities.

Remember that just an excel can improve drastically a business!
